Maybelline Super Stay Concealer: A Review

As promised I appear to be going through my makeup bag giving you a lowdown and review on pretty much every item in it.

Today item: Maybelline Super Stay Concealer

I have used the same type of concealer since using makeup, the good old cover up stick.  However, given my recent over haul of my beauty products I decided to have a go at a liquid concealer instead, namely Maybelline’s Super Stay Concealer.

I’ll start off by saying I’m not exactly blown away by this product, it’s probably average at best.

The concealer has a liquid/cream texture that isn’t too thick and actually goes on quite nicely; it doesn’t feel heavy on your skin and blends in quite well and I would say matches my skin tone perfectly, I used #2 Light Beige.

However... Given that this is a concealer, I do find that it doesn’t exactly do much concealing and you can still clearly see any blemishes that you were initially trying to cover up.  It’s not exactly totally transparent but it does seem like that cream isn’t thick enough to cover anything sufficiently.

The product comes in a tube with an application wand with a spongy tip.  I do quite like the applicator as it does allow you to apply the product exactly where you want it, providing you wipe off the excess in the tube before applying as it turns out a little bit goes a long way.

I would also say that the product doesn’t last very long and will rub off quickly through the day, and by the time it comes to take my makeup off there is hardly any product left on.

I do normally love all Maybelline products and will still continue to use the brand, but I would not buy another one of these concealers as it doesn’t do a good enough job in covering up my blemishes.  I do however, quite like the liquid concealer and so will be trying this in another brand.

Generally, not the worst concealer I’ve ever used but definitely not up to scratch.

Buh Bye,

Me, Myself and I

"Mirror, Mirror on the wall,
Tell me, mirror what is wrong"

This post’s TUNE comes from De la Soul.  This is a one off song me for, in the sense that I know nothing else of De La Soul and have never knowingly heard any other of their songs.  However, I still think this is a great tune, obviously, as I have it listed here, and have decided to share it with you.  It’s a weird one, I have such an eclectic musical taste and so many songs I love that sometimes it’s hard to pick which one to share, but I guess it’s whatever I’m listening to right now, and this tune is it!
That is all.

Please have a little look at the video here and check out their website here.

Onwards and upwards...

So as you may have noticed the weather seems to have remarkably improved and so I am feeling summery, hence the summery outfit.  If you can believe it, it was actually warm at the end of last week, and so I had to take advantage of this fact by wearing my lovely little holiday skirt and getting myself out in the sunshine.

Last week was a good week mainly because I spent only 3 days in work, and quite frankly the less time spent in work the better!  The reason why it was a 3 day week was because me, my sister (bad English) and my wee little doggy George took a road trip down to Weymouth to visit my parents who were on holiday down there for a week.  We only spend one night down there but I loved it and remembered all the reasons why I love Weymouth and the south of England so much... because it’s so damn pretty... Oh and it’s warmer and rains less (although anywhere rains less than Wales).  Anywho, it was a nice little break and the sun was shining the entire time so happy days!

Anywho, back to my outfit...  I love this little skirt, it’s so pretty and dainty with its little navy and white heart print and cute little belt (how patronising does that sound, can you be patronising about clothes?), and goes just lovely with my rather see through white blouse which of course needs a vest top underneath as to not expose myself to the world.

I popped on a pair of old peep toe shoes which I found hiding in the back of my wardrobe, stuck on a bowler hat (as you do on a warm day?!?!) and brought out my new Primark bag again for a bit of random colour.

How summery!  Of course it would be more summery if I hadn’t put a bowler hat with it, but I like it so whatever!

On a different note, I’ve decided on a new format for the way I post.  I am now going to post only on set days, which will be Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, with two outfit posts a week and one random one of whatever I feel like talking about.  I like a good bit of organisation and this way I feel like my blog will be perfectly organised...  You may not give a rats bum about when I post, for maybe just maybe there is one person out there who is interested and they will be very happy to know the routine...  I thank you!

Needy Girl

When you're home alone, you don't answer the phone, alright.

But it's like a crime if I don't answer mine tonight

This post’s TUNE comes from Chromeo.  This duo used to be one of my favourites, hell they still are!  With a mixture of electronic and funk all their songs are just incredibly catchy and set them apart from anything I have heard.  This song is particularly good, which is why I picked it, not as a cry for help, just letting you know.
Please check out the video here and have a sneak peek at their website here.

Moooooooving on...

Dungarees: New Look (£22.99)
T Shirt: Primark (£3.00)
Daps: Primark (£3.00)
Backpack: Primark (£9.00)
Bracelets: Topshop/New Look (old)

When I took these it was actually sunny outside and I could comfortably go out with my wee white legs exposed and not be cold.  Of course the weather has changed since then and until it changes back I will not be stepping outside my door without being fully wrapped up.

But I digress...

The dungarees were bought a while back just before everyone started wearing them (everyone!) ready for holiday (see my post on my holiday packing here) and they did well to serve their purpose.  I was hopeful that I would be able to continue to wear them back home but other than this one occasion the weather has made good and sure that these lovely dungarees remain tucked away neatly in my wardrobe, boooo!

I think it’s a bit difficult to style a pair of dungarees as alot of tops just don’t look right underneath, but I do think that this one (also bought for holidays), goes perfectly, and as an added bonus has Jimi Hendrix on it, so it’s all good in the hood.

To go nicely with my t shirt and dungarees combination I stuck on a pair of good old white daps.  I don’t think there has been a summer as far back as I can remember where I haven’t had a pair of white daps, and with them only being £3.00 in Primark you can’t really go wrong.  It’s quite handy that they are so cheap as I don’t know about anyone else but my white daps just don’t seem to stay white...

The final accessory is my multi-coloured backpack which I absolutely love but is totally impractical as a backpack as you can’t put much in there as the handles or anything else will slowly start to tear.  So no loading my bag up with the same old crap as I normally do then.  Of course, as I like the bag and it looks pretty I can forgive it and will aim to leave behind some of my crap in order for it to live a bit longer.

Finally, look how much my hair has grown!  I can now tie it up in a pony tail, albeit with the help from a couple of clips but I do love being able to just stick it up and not have to blow dry it.  I have been guilty of going to work every day for the past few weeks with this hair style.  (Lazy Cow!)  I can’t remember the last time it was actually this long (I know it’s not exactly down my back but for me this is long), and I’m not sure really what I want to do.  I think I may continue to grow it for another few months or maybe until the end of the year and then one day just go to the hairdressers and have it all hacked back off... Is it weird that I get some sort of satisfaction out of that?  Oh yes it is weird?! oh fair enough...

Anyway, there you go, a summer outfit which is kind of ironic given the sh*t  weather.  Ah well....

I’m Ready for My Close Up #3

Here we are again with another portrait and therefore close up of my face.  The Joy haha.

I hate to break with tradition so I may aswell start off with a little update on my skin, and this time I’m not grumbling (makes a change, my boyfriend will back me up on that on that...).

Anywho, so for what seems like forever I have been having regular bouts of spots which left behind dark red marks, just to serve as a little reminder that they were there, charming.  However, recently, I have had no spots and touch wood (actually doing it right now), it seems like my skin has got a lot better!  Yeyyyy!

I would like to be able to give you an exact solution to my spot problem but there seem to have been many factors which I think have helped and have stopped my spots.  Of course, I’ll still share exactly what has changed because maybe it was just one of these things:

  1. I went on holiday.  Ok, I’m not bragging here, I’m just saying that I went on holiday to a hot country and therefore did not wear any makeup for the entire 2 weeks which I think gave my skin a much needed break from the stuff.
  2. As I was going to a India and it is a high risk for malaria I had to take medication to prevent actually catching said disease.  For this I took Doxycycline for 6 weeks (yup, six whole weeks!).  Now, I think that this is the main reason why my skin has improved, as Doxycycline is an antibiotic which is not only used for the prevention of malaria, but also to treat acne!  Of course medications work differently for everyone, and I was lucky enough to not get any of the side effects (look them up before you go abroad as light sensitivity is one), but I do think that this antibiotic has cleared up my skin, and it’s effects seem to be continuing.
  3. I changed my pill to Co-cypriniol, which again was originally used as an acne medication but was found to work also as a contraceptive.
  4. Every day I now use a face scrub whilst in the shower, alternating between two different ones but both of the same brand (St Ives to be exact), I’ll talk more about these in a different post.
So as you can see there does seem to be a lot of factors involved in my skin getting better.  Not only have the breakouts stopped but also, the marks left from previous spots are also slowly disappearing.

Obviously my skin still isn’t perfect but it is now a lot better.  I accept that my skin will never be perfect and I will still probably get spots at some point, but right now it’s a million times better and I’m happy with it.

If you want any more information about what has been helping my skin then just get in touch, happy to help!

Black Hole Sun

Black hole sun,
Won't you come
And wash away the rain?

This post’s TUNE comes from Soundgarden.  If you have not heard of Soundgarden before then shame on you, shame on all of you, because you my friends have been missing out.  You know Audioslave (no? then look them up), well they are made up of 25% Soundgarden (i.e. Chris Cornell) and 75% Rage against the Machine (Hurrah, putting the maths degree to good use there).  Soundgarden were part of the whole grunge scene which I personally loved, I wasn’t really the right age to appreciate them when they were at their heyday but I sure got into it all when I was a moody little teenager; however, fortunately, I didn’t fully embrace the whole grunge thing as I continued to shower and remained clean.
Anywho, check out this amazing song, which if I may add, is one of my favourite songs ever, here and check out their website here (just do it to have a look at Chris Cornell... mmmmmm Chris Cornell).

Where was I... Oh yes, the outfit...

Skirt: Matalan (£10.00)
Blouse: Primark (£8.00)
Belt: Primark (came with a playsuit)
Shoes: Topshop (£35.00)
Bag: Primark (£6.00)
Denim Jacket: Primark (old)
Bracelets: Topshop/NewLook (old)
Necklace: Topshop (old)

Oh my god, what I have actually just realised is that the main part of my outfit, i.e. the clothes and shoes, are all new!  This is highly unusual as normally everything is labelled as old, but this time I can actually give you prices as I only just bought them and they will still be in the shops!  Uh-Maze-Ing!

Anywho, this is my summery-but-not quite-proper-weather-to-get-the-old-legs-out look, it’s a catchy title isn’t it.  I saw this skirt in Matalan a few days ago and thought, ‘Oooh, I am having that’.  However, on the way to the till I did think, ‘Ooh this is a bit bright, will I actually wear it, should I put it back?’.  Fortunately I had already reached the till by the time I could have properly changed my mind and I am very glad that I didn’t.

Despite orange not being an everyday colour in my wardrobe (thank god, I don’t really want to be know as the tangerine queen), I do really love this skirt.  I love the length, the colour and the material, so gold star for that one.

I do have a few ideas of how I could wear this skirt, but this just happens to be my first look, it’s quite girly and pretty which I really like, but add a denim jacket into the mix and it’s a bit more edgy (see I can be down with the kiddies too).  My blouse is pretty basic, which is perfect for a dramatic colour like this or will work very well with a nice bold print, I’m sure I can find something like that in my wardrobe too.

Finally I added in my new shoes.  I have decided to keep this pair, I’m still not hundred percent on the other pair (see my post on them here), but I do absolutely love these and I think they will be perfect for both summer and winter.

Last but not least (I know I just said finally, but I didn’t mean it), I would like to draw attention to my new bag.  I saw it in Primark and couldn’t resist it.  I’ts not my usual style (i.e. it’s not a satchel), but I do like the colours and the ‘material’.

So yup, this is my pretty, girly, summery look, I hope you love it as much as I do.
Let me know what you think, will you be rocking some in your face bright colours this ‘summer’?

Collection Illuminating Touch: A Review

Recently thanks to Boots and their amazing 3 for 2 offers I have been changing up my makeup and trying some new products (well new to me anyway).  Since going nuts and buying a load of makeup (see here, for what I bought), I have been doing a few reviews to let y’all know what I think, and this is yet another one of those little gems.

I had been hearing very good things about the Collection Illuminating Touch under eye concealer, and thought I should give it a go.  I have always used normal concealer under my eyes, and always thought that was about as good as it was going to get...  But I was wrong, because this stuff is flippin’ fantastic!

The coverage is amazing!  I now have no dark circles under my eyes, which considering the time I get up in the morning, is extraordinary!   I now no longer look like a tired smack addict, which is always a plus side!

I chose, what is probably the darkest of the shades, number 3 Glow, which, when I took it outside into the sunlight, I realised was a lot more yellowy than my skin tone.  However, this worked out very well as actually the colour covers perfectly and blends very well into my skin tone.  Just a heads up for you there, just in case, like me, you have vampire pale skin, and were worried about choosing a darker shade.

The applicator is a brush tip with a twist base.  This is the only down side to the product as it takes a while for the product to work through into the brush, and sometimes you can twist it a little too much under the assumption that nothing is coming through and then have a big splodge of it sitting on the brush.   The key I have found is to twist the base two clicks, hold the product with the brush facing down and then give it a little time to come through, this is normally enough to cover both eyes.

Overall, I love this stuff, and when it runs out I will most definitely be buying more.  For the price I will also say that it is amazing value and will most certainly be trying their concealer next!

So yup, I highly recommend it and I think it will become a firm favourite in my makeup bag!

She’s got that Vibe

“Yeah, how would you like to get
A piece of this pie...”

This post’s TUNE comes from Mr R Kelly.  When we were younger my sister’s favourite was always R Kelly, and eventually, after she had played him so much he grew on me and ended up being one of my favourite artists.  R Kelly doesn’t always have the best reputation, he’s done some dodgy songs (trapped in the closet) and allegedly some other dodgy stuff too, but despite this he still has made some of the finest songs around, and this one happens to be my personal favourite.  So please watch the video (even if it’s just for the dodgy outfits) here, and you can visit the main mans website here.

Get your vibe on and carry on...

Jeans: Primark (£11.00)
Shirt: Primark (£9.00)
Brogues: Asos (old)
Bag: River Island (old)
Necklace: Topshop (old)
Watch: Urban Outfitters (old)
Bracelets: New Look / Topshop (old)

Keeping it simple with this look, sometimes a pair of jeans is just what the doctor ordered...

God I love Primark, I honestly think I buy 90% of my clothes from there now, I should be some sort of ambassador for the place... If your listening Primark or someone who works for them, I love your clothes, I live in your clothes, and I’ll quite happily continue wearing your clothes, just hold tight with the good prices... don’t buckle, keep it cheap, and you’ll keep your customers!

Good to get that out of my system!

Anywho, since coming back from holiday I haven’t done much shopping and therefore have been suffering with some serious withdrawal symptoms, so I really needed to get back into the swing of things, a trip to Cardiff was in order.  I had a good old time spending my money and I’m sure my purchases will be popping up in upcoming outfit posts, but for now lets look at this one.

At £9.00 this shirt is a bargain, I wanted one just like this for ages but the last time I saw something similar was in top shop for at least 3 times the price!  The material is relatively thin so it’s lovely and light and perfect for summer.

Having over worn my last pair of jeans I figured I needed to buy a new pair, which happen to be the exact same pair, hell if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.  These pair are short length though as I prefer a good short leg jeans, although it depends how you want to wear them...

Finally, I stuck on my brogue shoes from ASOS, which I love so much, and have survived well given their age, added a good old River Island bag and a few choice accessories, namely my Jesus chain from Topshop and old watch from Urban Outfitters and there you have it.

Slowly, very slowly, the weather is starting to get better and so we can all start breaking out the skirts and shorts and sandals... praise the lord.

I would just like to add here that I am in no way religious despite the last couple of references, and I apologise if you are, I’m not trying to be offensive, it’s just the way I talk.  Thank you please.
